Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Anime Renewed for Third Season

The final episode of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II, the second season of the anime, aired on Sunday and revealed that a third season is in the works.

The season was split into two parts. The first part premiered on Tokyo MX on July 2, 2023, before airing on other networks, and the second part aired from April to June 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the episodes as they were broadcast.

Hiroki Hirano, who was the assistant director for the first season, took over as director at Studio Bind for the first part of the second season, replacing Manabu Okamoto. Ryōsuke Shibuya directed the second part. Toshiya Ono (known for works like 86, Gatchaman Crowds, Land of the Lustrous, The Promised Neverland) replaced Okamoto as the series script supervisor for this season. Sanae Shimada (Photo Kano, UTOPA) and Yoshiko Saitō (chief animation director for season 1) joined as the new character designers.

Masakazu Miyake continued as the art director, and Makiko Doi returned as the color key artist. Other returning staff included Shinji Tonsho as the compositing director of photography, Akinori Mishima as the editor, Jin Aketagawa as the sound director, Tsutomu Ueno handling sound effects, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa as the musical composer. The production was managed by EGG FIRM, with rock band Hitorie performing the opening theme song "On the Frontline."

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed both Rifujin na Magonote's original light novel series and Yuka Fujikawa's manga adaptation. They also hold the license for Shōko Iwami's spinoff manga, Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious (Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Datte Honki desu). Seven Seas describes the original novels' story as follows:

Kicked out by his family and wandering the streets, an unemployed 34-year-old shut-in thinks he's hit rock bottom—just as he's hit and killed by a speeding truck! Awakening to find himself reborn as an infant in a world of swords and sorcery, but with the memories of his first life intact, Rudeus Greyrat is determined not to repeat his past mistakes. He's going to make the most of this reincarnation as he sets off on the adventure of a second lifetime!

Rifujin na Magonote initially serialized the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let's Become Novelists) website from 2012 to 2015. Kadokawa's MF Books imprint began publishing the print version in 2014, with the 26th volume released in November 2022.

The first part of the anime adaptation premiered in January 2021, followed by the second part in October 2021 after a delay from July. Funimation streamed the season, while Crunchyroll and Hulu now stream the anime, including the unaired side-story OVA episode "Eris the Goblin Slayer."
