Sabikui Bisco TV Anime 2nd Season Announced
During the live-streamed Dengeki Bunko 30th anniversary event held on Sunday, it was announced that a second season of the television anime adaptation of Shinji Cobkubo's (Kobukubo) light novel series, "Rust-Eater Bisco" (Sabikui Bisco), has been approved for production.
The anime
initially premiered on Tokyo MX, BS11, Sun TV, and ABEMA on January 10, 2022.
Funimation and Crunchyroll simultaneously streamed the anime with English
subtitles and an English dubbed version.
The story
takes place in Japan after a catastrophic event known as the "Rusting
Wind" has corroded everything in its path. Society lives in constant fear
of the rust that engulfs cities and life itself. The protagonist, Bisco
Akaboshi, hails from the marginalized Mushroom Guardian tribe and embarks on a
perilous journey to acquire the "Rust-Eating" mushroom—a miraculous
remedy that purifies all forms of rust—in order to save his dying teacher.
During his
quest, Bisco encounters Miro Nekoyanagi, an attractive young doctor residing in
Imihama. Together, they search for a solution to counter the rust that is
consuming Miro's beloved older sister.
The first
season of the anime was directed by Atsushi Ikariya at OZ, with Daisuke Mataga
serving as the assistant director. Sadayuki Murai oversaw the series scripts.
The character designs were created by Ai Asari and Atsushi Ikariya, with Norie
Igawa and Ai Asari acting as chief animation directors. Yi Hui Zhang also
contributed as an animation director. The music for the series was composed by
Takeshi Ueda (AA=) and Hinako Tsubakiyama.
The
"Rust-Eater Bisco" light novel series, published under Kadokawa's Dengeki
Bunko imprint, made its debut in 2018, featuring illustrations by K Akagishi
and world-building art by mocha. The ninth volume of the novel series is
scheduled to be released on August 10. Notably, the light novel series was the
first to secure the top spots in both the overall ranking and new work ranking
in the same year of the "Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi" book.
Additionally, Yūsuke Takahashi serialized a manga adaptation on Square Enix's
Manga UP! website from 2019 to 2020.
The second
part of the manga adaptation premiered on the Square Enix's Manga UP! app on
December 15, 2022. Sо̄ Natsuki has taken over as the artist
for the second part, succeeding Yūsuke
Takahashi.
