On Tuesday, the official Twitter account of Kaiu Shirai and
Posuka Demizu's renowned manga "The Promised Neverland" made an
exciting announcement, revealing that the manga has now surpassed an incredible
milestone of 42 million copies in circulation worldwide. This achievement
coincided with the manga's seventh anniversary, and in celebration, a special
commemorative illustration was posted.
The journey of "The Promised Neverland" began in
August 2016 when Shirai and Demizu launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly
Shonen Jump magazine. After an eventful run, the series concluded in June 2020,
leaving a lasting impact on its devoted fanbase. The final volume, the 20th in
the series, was published by Shueisha in October 2020, bringing the captivating
story to a close.
In North America, Viz Media has been responsible for
digitally and physically publishing the manga, making it readily available to
English-speaking readers. Additionally, MANGA Plus has also been publishing the
manga digitally for a wider audience.
The anime adaptation of "The Promised Neverland"
premiered in January 2019, captivating audiences with its gripping storytelling
and compelling visuals. Aniplex of America handled the anime's streaming on
popular platforms like Crunchyroll, Hulu, Funimation, and HIDIVE as it aired.
Toonami also joined in the anime's airing, beginning in April 2019.
While fans were eagerly anticipating the second season's
release, it faced a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on production.
Originally scheduled for October 2020, the second season eventually premiered
in January 2021.
