The SPY×FAMILY Code: White anime film made an impressive debut by claiming the top spot in the Japanese box office during its opening weekend. The film, which opened last Friday, garnered widespread attention by selling 866,000 tickets and amassing a total of 1.224 billion yen (approximately US$8.61 million) in its initial three days of release.
This anime film is an entirely new creation featuring an
original storyline that follows the intriguing lives of Loid and Yor. Loid, a
spy, and Yor, an assassin, skillfully balance their double lives while
outwardly appearing as the perfect family. Unbeknownst to them, their adopted
daughter Anya, possessing telepathic abilities, is privy to both of their
thrilling secrets. The plot takes a captivating turn when, during a seemingly
innocuous weekend winter getaway, Loid's efforts to advance his mission,
Operation Strix, encounter challenges as Anya unwittingly becomes involved,
setting off a series of events that pose a threat to world peace.
Tatsuya Endō, the original manga creator, is credited with
the film's original work and character designs, and he also served as
supervisor for the production. The animation duties were once again handled by
WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks. Directed by Takashi Katagiri, with a script by
Ichiro Okouchi, the film boasts a talented team of creators, including
character designer Kazuaki Shimada and sub-character designer Kana Ishida.
Kyoji Asano took on the role of chief animation director, with Kazuhiro
Furuhashi as the animation supervisor. The music was produced by [K]NoW_NAME,
and Shōji Hata served as the sound director.
The film features captivating musical contributions, with
Official HiGE DANdism performing the theme song "Soulsoup." This band
had previously lent their talents to the first opening theme song of the
anime's inaugural season. Additionally, Gen Hoshino performed the film's ending
song, "Hikari no Ato" (Trails of Light), which serves as a sequel to
his earlier contribution, "Kigeki" (Comedy), the ending theme song
for the anime's first television season.
Adding further excitement to the film are new cast members,
including Tomoya Nakamura as Dmitri, Kento Kaku as Luka, Banjou Ginga as
Snijder, and Shunsuke Takeuchi as Type F. With its stellar cast, captivating
plot, and strong creative team, The SPY×FAMILY Code: White anime film promises
to be a noteworthy addition to the anime landscape. Furthermore, Crunchyroll
has announced plans to screen the film in North America in 2024, ensuring that
fans around the world will have the opportunity to experience this thrilling
story.
