The Boy and the Heron Receives Best Animated Film Award




On December 31, The Alliance of Women Film Journalists bestowed the Best Animated Film award upon Hayao Miyazaki's cinematic masterpiece, "The Boy and the Heron" (Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka, or literally "How Do You Live?"). Joe Hisaishi, the acclaimed composer, has been shortlisted in the Music (Original Score) category at the 2024 Oscars for his outstanding contribution to the film. The prestigious accolades continue as the film receives nominations at the 2024 London Critics' Circle Awards, and earlier, on December 21, the Florida Film Critics Circle honored it with the Best Picture award – a groundbreaking achievement for an animated feature film. Additionally, the film clinched awards for Best Animated Film and Best Score.

In the realm of international recognition, the Astra Film & Creative Arts Awards have nominated Hayao Miyazaki for Best International Filmmaker, while the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards recognized the film with the Best Animation award. The Boston Society of Film Critics also lauded it with the Animated Feature award.

Debuting in Japan on July 14, the film's success is evident in its box office triumph, selling over 1.003 million tickets and grossing approximately US$13.2 million in its initial three days. Further cementing its status, the film secured the #71 spot among the highest-grossing films in Japan and emerged as the third highest-grossing
